Select the 1:1 Participation Option During Online Registration for Grade 3

Dear Families,

The 2015-2016 school year has just come to a close, and we are already preparing our technology program for the 2016-2017 school year. The new school year will also bring some exciting (and needed) changes to our current 1:1 Teaching and Learning program. We received a lot of feedback from our families, teachers and students, and have modified the 1:1 program to best suit the needs of our learning community. Please see the list below for some highlights of the changes, and access the full list by CLICKING HERE.

During the online student registration process, those registering our soon-to-be 3rd graders, will be asked to select one of three 1:1 participation options (see below).

1:1 Teaching and Learning Participation

___ Rent; $150 Technology Fee.

___ Rent-to-Own / Lease (RtO); $165 each year, for three consecutive years ($495 total).

___ Bring Your Own iPad (BYOiPad); Family must purchase iPad and all associated apps.

The above options are explained below.

Rent - The cost of the the Rent option will be $150 and devices will be allowed to go home with students. All app purchases, installation and tech support will be handled by the District. Families will not have the option to install personal apps. There will be up to a $50 charge for a first occurrence of damage to the device, and families will be responsible for 100% of the cost of repair or replacement after that. The District will install web filtering software on all Rent devices, that is designed to help filter web content when devices leave campus. Families will be notified during the summer months of when students can come pick up their devices.

Rent-to-Own (RtO) / Lease - The total cost of ownership for the RtO option or the 2016-2017 school year is $495, and it will be billed to families in installments of $165 per year, for three consecutive years. Once the $495 balance is paid in full, the device becomes the property of the family and will move into the BYO iPad option. At this point, the District will remove its system software, and the BYO iPad parameters will apply.

RtO devices are allowed to go home with students. Students will not have the option to install personal apps.  All app purchases, installation and tech support will be handled by the District. There will be up to a $50 charge for a first occurrence of damage to the device, and families will be responsible for 100% of the cost of repair or replacement after that. The District will install web filtering software on all RtO devices, which is designed to help filter web content when devices leave campus.

Bring Your Own iPad (BYO iPad) -  Families are welcome and encouraged to bring their own iPad, but BYO devices will not be managed by the District. During the summer months, families will be given a list of required apps they are responsible to purchase directly from the Apple App Store. This may also require families to setup Family Sharing and Apple IDs for your child. (Please CLICK HERE to read more about Apple’s Family Sharing and Apple ID setup for your child.) For those families that participate in the BYO iPad option, apps that have been identified as required by the District are considered a required school supply. The District will provide tier 1 (basic) technical support, but the maintenance and overall device health is the sole responsibility of the family. If you are considering the BYO iPad option, please see the device model restrictions by CLICKING HERE.

Additional information will be shared over the summer months, so stay tuned. In the meantime, please consider which 1:1 Teaching and Learning participation option would best fit your family's needs. You will need to indicate this selection during online registration.

We look forward to working with you and your child by continuing to develop our 1:1 Teaching and Learning program.

Sincerely,
RJ Bialk, Director of Technology & Assessment
