Jazz Band

Purpose of the Activity

  • Jazz Band is the place to be if you are curious about jazz music. No prior experience with jazz music or improvisation is necessary! In Jazz Band you will learn how to play in common jazz styles, the basics of improvisation, and a bit about the history of jazz music. You will also be introduced to many recordings of master jazz musicians on various instruments. Most importantly, Jazz Band is a place to make music with your friends and be yourself!

Tryout Procedures

  • Prior experience on the instrument you are playing in Jazz Band is required (you should not be a beginner on your Jazz Band instrument).

    Certain instruments such as Violin, Viola, Cello, Electric Bass, Double Bass, Guitar, and Drum Set have specific prerequisite skills to join Jazz Band.  If you play one of those instruments are interested in joining, please email the jazz band instructor. You are not required to have any prior Jazz experience!

    Make sure you have a permission to participate form on file with the club sponsor or coach otherwise you will not be able to participate in the program.
