Student Representatives to the Board
General Role Description:
In Lincolnshire-Prairie View School District, two students from 8th grade have the opportunity to serve as representatives on the Board of Education. The student representatives will act in an advisory capacity, providing student voice on agenda items related to students. Student representatives are not voting members and will not participate in closed session meetings. The student representatives will provide a middle school perspective on appropriate discussion topics and report on issues as requested by the Board, such as inquiry-based learning, pilot programs, strategic plan goals, the school calendar, and other relevant topics. Two student representatives will be appointed annually to the position and may serve a term as determined by the Board.

- Attend one Board of Education meeting each month from September to May.
- Share thoughts and ideas on topics that affect students.
- Create a report for each meeting to share student perspectives with the Board.
- Meet with the assistant superintendent (or a designated staff member) before each Board meeting to review your report and discuss important topics.
- Share updates from the Board meeting with students when needed.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
- Strong communication skills.
- Demonstrate leadership skills, including the ability to collaborate with peers.
- Ability to represent and speak on behalf of the students at Daniel Wright Junior High School.
- Good time management and organization skills.
Education Requirements:
- Must be in good academic standing and meet school guidelines for extracurricular participation.

- The personal statement should not be more than 500 words and should address the following:
- Why are you seeking this position?
- What are your goals for this position?
- Have you had experiences that have prepared you for this role? If yes, please describe.
- What do you bring to this position that others might not?
- Get one recommendation from a Daniel Wright staff member. Students will request a staff member submit the Letter of Recommendation Google Form.
- The Assistant Superintendent will contact eligible applicants to arrange an interview.
- The Board of Education will communicate final decisions.
- The newly selected Student Representative(s) to the Board of Education will be presented at the first board meeting in September.
