Welcome Back to School!
Dear District 103 Families,
It is my pleasure to welcome you back to a new school year! We have been very busy this summer with various projects including: hiring new teachers and support staff; updating curriculum; and completing construction at Sprague and Half Day Schools.
The "Back to School Packet" is now available on the district website at www.d103.org/backtoschool. Additionally, on August 15, grades K-5 will receive an email with classroom assignments and class lists. Grades 6-8 have already received information via mail earlier this summer. If you have not received this information, please contact the school office.
There is some important information for you to review and a few tasks to complete before the school year begins. Links to this information can be found at the end of this letter. Please remember to complete any required health forms, and return any relevant medications and/or allergy forms to the school office in advance of the first day of school. These medical forms are part of the district's student registration process and are also available online. If you are interested in information about student accident insurance plans, please visit the flyer on the district's virtual backpack webpage.
The District has scheduled "Late Arrival Days" for students on October 19, 2017 and April 19, 2018. Students will arrive to school 90 minutes later than the usual start times. These days will be used for professional development training for our staff members. "Late Arrival Days" also provide us the opportunity to hold school during severe weather conditions when it is safer to transport students to school later than the usual start times. Please refer to the "Back to School Packet" for our academic calendar and more detailed information.
Please review the District's life threatening allergies policy and information regarding healthy and safe foods, including what snacks can be brought to school. The policy, procedures and checklist can be found at the link provided on the next page.
Quest Food Management Services is the district's food vendor and offers healthy lunch options to our students, including daily specials, hot entrees, sandwiches, fruits and vegetables. Information regarding Quest's services and menus can be found on their webpage.
Information concerning free/reduced milk/lunch program is available on the virtual backpack for families who meet income guidelines.
Bus route information will be available through PowerSchool. Please check your child's bus route information beginning Monday, August 21, 2017, by 3:00 pm.
Thank you for working with us to help your children become tomorrow's leaders. I look forward to partnering with you this year!
Scott H. Warren, Ed.D.
