With the changing demographics and diversity of District 103 and the desire of the District to not appear to be endorsing any religion, starting with the 2017-2018 school year, the District will be in session on the religious holidays of Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and Good Friday, if they do not fall during a scheduled break. This will not increase the total number of student attendance days. We will simply reallocate student attendance days, and the total number will remain the same. (Please see our eNotice of February 15, 2017, with additional background.) The 2017-2018 school calendar incorporates this change. The District is sensitive to our students' family responsibilities outside of school and works to ensure scheduled school activities and homework completion do not conflict with major religious holidays.
Also of note, the calendar indicates the school hours for 2017-2018, approved by the Board at its regular meeting in December 2016 and in line with the Vision 2020 strategic plan goal: Determine the feasibility of adjusting the starting and ending times for each school that consider the health and well-being of students.
