Congratulations to the Daniel Wright Science Bowl Team of five competitors who placed in the top eight in the Science Bowl Nationals on Friday, June 6.
Because of COVID-19 Pandemic the Daniel Wright Science Bowl Team adjusted to a new format of remote competition. Working since September, the team started its competition against thousands of other schools in the nation.
Congratulations to the DW Science Bowl Team: Vedant Rathi (8th), Angela Guo (8th), Kevin Shen (8th), Aaroh Tak (7th), and Timothy Bui (7th). The team was coached by Tony Hafner and Maggie Patel.
Science Bowl is a competitive academic club for students that excel and enjoy science. Students compete in a "Jeopardy Style" format answering math and science questions. The Department of Energy sponsored competition focuses on math, earth-space science, physical science, life science and energy. The students have to not only be mentally sharp on the toss up questions, but have to use teamwork to solve bonus questions.
The team won the Illinois regional earning a right to travel to Washington DC for the finals, but was postponed due to Covid-19. Although disappointed, the team continued to study and practice with coaches and family members. They adjusted to the new rules related to attempting the competition remotely.
“Since losing the opportunity to travel to DC, they could have quit, but continued to work together and have a successful finish to their season,” said Coach Hafner.
