In-Person Learning

I am pleased to inform you that we are working to open our doors on January 19, 2021 for in-person learning for families who chose this option. Unless there are significant changes in our local metrics that impact our risk mitigation in schools, or guidance from the Lake County Health Department (LCHD), we will open school on January 19.

As you know, we have worked closely with LCHD throughout this pandemic. The county has recently modified its recommendations based on changes to the CDC recommendations, and information regarding transmission of the virus in schools when mitigation strategies are implemented. Based on these factors, we feel confident our mitigation strategies are effective, so we can once again open our doors. We will continue to monitor the metrics of transmission of COVID in our area.

The CDC lists five mitigation strategies, when implemented, lower the risk of transmission in schools. These strategies are:

  • Consistent and correct use of masks - See Nurse’s information on correct mask wearing

  • Social distancing to the largest extent possible

  • Hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette

  • Cleaning and sanitizing

  • Contact tracing in collaboration with the local health department

We have implemented the above strategies plus the following strategies to further lower the risk of transmission in our schools:

  • Placing students into smaller learning pods to reduce exposure

  • Improved ventilation

  • Onsite diagnostic testing for symptomatic individuals

One additional mitigation factor will be the vaccination of our staff starting as early as the beginning of February. This will greatly improve our ability to have in-person learning. Unfortunately, we do not know when students will be eligible for the vaccine. We will communicate this information once it is known.

To prepare for the shift to in-person learning and the change in classes for many students, we will have a modified learning day for all students on Friday, January 15 with the following schedule:

  • Sprague - AM Synchronous, PM Asynchronous

  • Half Day - AM Synchronous, PM Asynchronous

  • Daniel Wright - Full Day Asynchronous

This schedule will enable our teachers to have discussions regarding student placements, prepare classrooms, and make needed changes for learning on the 19th of January.

Please watch your email next week for information from both the district and your children’s schools regarding:

  • Permission to diagnostically test your child for COVID if they are symptomatic

  • School procedures for returning to school

  • Transportation

It is imperative for us all to remain vigilant in our personal lives to follow health guidance to 1. Wear a mask, 2. Wash our hands, and 3. Watch our distance to keep our transmission rates low in our community and schools. The more we do this, the longer we can keep our doors open.

Thank you for continuing to work with us as we raise our Leaders in Learning!
