Bus Shortages

As mentioned in the e-Notice sent on July 28, 2022, the district is experiencing a major shortage of bus drivers. We have seven open positions and do not have any substitute drivers available for when a driver is absent. Most of our routes are full with three students per seat and route times are 45-55 minutes to complete. With this driver shortage, there will be times when you will need to find alternate transportation for your child in the morning with little notice due to a driver absence. Please plan now for alternate ways for your child to get to school when we notify you that your bus route will not be running that day.

We continue to work on different plans to solve this issue. We are asking for families to please opt out of busing using the Bus Opt Out Form if you plan to drive your student to/from school daily. This may free up some routes and enable us to provide more consistent busing for those students who require transportation. If you are able to opt-out until Thanksgiving, we may be able to find additional bus drivers by then. If not, we will ask you to opt out for the remainder of the year.

Seeking Drivers

Additionally, if you or someone else you know is interested in working a partial shift or both morning and afternoon shifts, please contact our Director of Transportation Anthony Mendoza at amendoza@d103.org.

Thank you for your consideration and we will keep you posted regarding any changes that will occur with busing for this year.
