First–graders visited the Raupp Museum in Buffalo Grove recently to discover what life was like for pioneers in this area over 180 years ago, especially how people earned and spent their money. In small groups, students read the history about a local family then made a shopping list of what they might need to survive more than a century ago. Students had to determine what things a family needed and what items were 'wants' for a family. To view more pictures of the museum trip, please visit the school's Facebook page.
"Students get engaged in their learning with hands-on lessons and experiences like the one at the Raupp Museum. It brings history alive and makes the concept of needs and wants relevant to everyday life," explained Eleanor Kahn, first-grade teacher.
