Pumpkin Seed Counting

Students experienced integrated science, math, and ELA concepts through a fun activity that included pumpkins. Students first estimated the height, weight, circumference, and number of seeds inside a pumpkin. Then, students used different methods to estimate the number of seeds in a pumpkin and count them. Students examined their data and compared their estimates to their actual numbers. Enjoy some of the pictures from the activity.

“Finally, we combined the total seed counts of all the pumpkins in the room for a grand total of seeds in all pumpkins, which was 3,249 seeds!” explained Fourth-Grade Teacher Kelly Bichkoff.
