Half Day fourth-graders presented an earthquake-resistant design project taking place in class to the D103 Board of Education in November. Students study earth systems during class and conclude with a STEM earthquake resistant building design challenge. In this project, students understand that earthquakes are natural hazards, but the effects can be reduced through engineering solutions. Students plan and build prototypes using researched technologies, then test and evaluate their prototype, and finally redesign and retest their revised models.
