Throughout the school year, fifth-grade classrooms take turns making lunches for the homeless. For nearly 20 years students have filled paper bags with sandwiches, chips, fruit cups, and dessert as a way of helping a local PADS site, the homeless shelter system for Lake County.
“This event ties into our social-emotional learning unit. It helps students gain a sense of empathy and compassion. It makes the students feel connected to less fortunate people in the community and helps them to understand that the need is real," said Amy La Roi, a fifth-grade teacher. for more pictures of the activity, please visit the school's Facebook page.
