Fourth-graders wrapped up their study of Earth systems with an earthquake challenge. Students were tasked with engineering an earthquake resistant structure. After learning about tectonic plates, faults, and boundaries, students researched engineering techniques. Students planned, built, and revised their structures.
This activity is part of the state’s Next Generation Science Standards where students are expected to demonstrate grade-appropriate proficiency in asking questions, developing and using models, planning and carrying out investigations, analyzing and interpreting data, constructing explanations and designing solutions.
