As part of a recent Half Day Earth Science unit, fourth-graders completed an investigation on physical weathering that explored components of the soil and what it is made up of such as rock particles: gravel, pebbles, sand, clay, and silt.
“We explore how big rocks are broken down into smaller rocks. Students worked together in groups to analyze two types of rocks: granite and conglomerate and record detailed observations,” explained Teacher Tara Drazner.
It is all part of their study of the Earth systems in the community in which they live. For pictures of the activity, please visit the school's Google Doc folder.
